This is more like it! Taittinger is £20 at Asda.

‘Taittinger is one of the last great Champagne Houses to remain independent and is owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. The family are guardians of Taittinger's style quality and integrity. The hallmark of their fine Champagnes is the high proportion of Chardonnay used in their winemaking which is key, in the Champagne region, for producing wines of great elegance and finesse. Additionally, with its vineyard ownership of 288 ha (one of the largest in Champagne), Taittinger can guarantee a flawless signature, and wines heralded worldwide for their consistent quality. Our signature cuvée, Taittinger Brut Réserve, is assembled from more than 35 crus and incorporates 40% Chardonnay - this high level is seldom offered in a non-vintage Champagne. Distinguished by a delicate nose marked by subtle brioche notes, it has a palate of considerable depth and balance with hints of honey and fresh fruit with a long, fresh finish.’

Week Beginning 24th October

I'm still waiting for the Christmas champagne deals to come flooding in. Waitrose has my only recommended special offer this week.

Duval-Leroy Premier Cru NV - £19.99 Waitrose seem to run this on promotion quite a lot but I think it's cracking value at £19.99. The Duval-Leroy NV usually goes for around £25 a pop so it's great to be able to get the premier cru for under £20. It's made mainly chardonnay but has a bit of pinot noir to give structure to the wine. Its very classy and has delicate floral notes on the nose and a soft lemon shortbread-like palate.

Week Beginning 3rd October

Not many exciting deals this week. Here's the best I could find.

Lanson Rose NV 75cl - £25.99 until the 4th October at Tesco so act fast. You also get another 25% off if you buy 6 bottles or more so can get this for £19.49 a bottle. It's not the greatest rose champagne but has soft red berry fruits and a refreshing acidity.

Nicolas Feuillate NV - £14.99 (£11.25 if you buy 6 of more) at Tesco. Good party champagne. It's the best selling champagnbe in France, don't you know.

Week Beginning 26th September

La Perle D'ayala 2000 - £50 at Marks and Spencers - I love Ayala! It's getting better and better every year. It has a very distinct charactor and isn't for everyone but if you like delicate, lively champagnes with fresh citrus acidity then you can't get much better than the La Perle.

Tesco's Finest Premier Cru Champagne - £14.99 at Tescos - This got a gold in the International Wine challenge and also won the Great Value Trophy. It is light and sherbety with a solid mineral backbone. It's surprisingly complex considering the price. It's worth buying a case for everyday drinking.
